The raison d’ etre for formulating The Dentist Act1948' (XVI of 1948) is basically two fold: first to have a formal statement on Organization thinking which will serve as a guideline for action. Secondly, enforcing discipline on the basis of protect the common interests of Public and Dental Professionals. The Dental Council comprises of six (6) constituencies viz Central Government, State Government, Universities, Dental Colleges, Medical Council of India and the Private Practitioners of Dentistry.
1.) It envisages for permission to start Dental Colleges, and P.G. courses.
2). To prescribe the curriculum for Dental education at undergraduate and post graduate level.
Training of dentists, dental hygienists, and dental mechanics.
